The earth orbits around the sun at an angle. During the summer the top points towards the sun and during winter it is turned away. Therefore the location near the top of the globe makes Lapland so special. It brings us the night-less nights, day-less days and northern lights.  In Äkäslompolo one summer day lasts over two months, because the sun doesn’t set. Here you can spend a vacation in the midnight sun from the middle of May until the beginning of August.
