Dear customer,

On May 29, 2020, the government revoked the recommendation to avoid domestic tourism. The government outlined, that it is possible to travel domestically if you follow the safety instructions related to the coronavirus. According to the government, the opening of domestic tourism is not expected to significantly increase the spread of the epidemic in the current epidemic situation, nor will it cause congestion of health care in the target areas of tourism either.

As you know, we are acting responsibly to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

We take care of good hand hygiene and try to minimise personal contacts at our office. We kindly ask you to do the same – unnecessary visits to the office are not desired, spending excess time at our office is prohibited.

Our staff has the right to use protecting gloves and/or face masks. We have also increased the cleaning cycles at our office. Hand disinfectant is available at the reception counter.

At a service encounter inside, we ask you to keep an appropriate distance between yourself and our staff. Cabin keys will be prepacked in envelopes. The envelopes are laid out in alphabetical order on a separate table in our reception area. For those arriving outside of office hours, the keys will be placed in labelled envelopes in the red post box outside our office entrance.

If you have any flu symptoms, we kindly ask you to avoid coming to the office. Also our staff is instructed to stay at home if they show any flu like symptoms.

For effective cleaning of the cabins we use the instructions given by the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL). Any needed maintenance at the cabins will be carried out only while the cabin is empty and no guests are present.

If you fall ill during your vacation and the symptoms give reason to suspect Covid-19 infection, please proceed according to following instructions:

“Contact the area health manager directly during office hours or
the on duty nurse on weekends and public holidays. If your general health is weakened, call the emergency number 112.

On the phone you will receive instructions on how to take a test. The results will be ready within 2-3 days. Even if the corona test results are negative, it is recommended to stay at home until the symptoms are resolved.

The Lapland health care district introduced low-threshold Covid-19 testing in the beginning of May 2020. Tests are available in Kolari every day. Exposure is not anymore the only criteria for testing, all symptoms are now a valid reason to get tested.”

Please inform our office about possible interruption of your holiday or if you suspect Covid-19 infection.

Update 14.04.2020

Dear customer!

Due to the large number of cancellations our customer service process is overloaded, nevertheless, we are starting to be on the winning side in handling all the cancellations. The schedule for refunds has been clarified and refund payments will be made in stages between 27.04. – 20.05.2020. Only bookings made through the office, paid from the bank account will be returned directly to the customer’s bank account, bookings made through the online booking system will be returned via Paytrail to the customer’s account / credit card. We thank you for your patience and support during these challenging times.

Every positive message from our customers has lifted our spirits a lot.

Destination Lapland Oy’s holiday home rental during Corona time

Dear customer!

Due to the corona virus Covid-19 pandemic the Finnish government has announced state of emergency for 18.03.2020-13.04.2020.

If you have a reservation for one of our holiday homes between 28.03.- 30.05.2020 you can:

Cancel your booking and have the paid amount minus cancellation fee (50€) and handling costs (20€ or 12€) returned. Please follow these instructions:

  • Send us an e-mail “BOOKING CANCELLATION” to our address:
    – Write in the message the contact name and booking number
    – If your booking was paid by bank transfer, please give your bank account number (IBAN)
    – If your booking was made through our online booking system and paid by credit card through Paytrail, we will return your money through same payment channel to the credit card used to pay the booking.
  • Estimated time for handling your cancellation is 14 days, estimated time for refunding your money is 30-60 days.

Move your booking. Please follow these instructions:

  • Send us an e-mail “MOVE BOOKING” to our address:
    – Write in the message the contact name and booking number
    – Bookings can only be rescheduled for same cabin
    Give us the dates to which you would like to move your booking
  • Estimated time frame for handling of reservation is 14 days. If moving your booking to the requested dates is possible we will confirm the new booking by e-mail. If the change as requested is not possible, we will contact you and refund the paid amount.
  • The announced price changes for season 2020-2021 do not apply for these bookings.

If you have already contacted us for cancellation of your booking, please do not send us a new e-mail, we will handle your request as proposed above.

The updated cancellation policy applies only to private customers.

We are living exceptional times and even after 34 years working in tourism I am facing the unknown. As business owner and CEO it is my duty to consider the interests of all of the company’s stakeholders, including our customers who rent the holiday homes, the cabin owners and the countless subcontractors. Just as big is the concern for the well-being, health and future of our employees in this challenging situation.

The Corona virus imposes also a state of emergency on companies, with the constantly new information on the crisis the effects and the scope on all company actions have changed and evolved accordingly. The situation has been changing drastically, even in one day.

The increase in contacts about our cancellation policy and money refunds has grown enormously, but so have the support messages from countless friends and fans of Äkäslompolo from around the world. Many have told us they believe that everything is going to be ok and that they will be returning to our village again, when the time is right.

As the CEO of the company I am now in the situation where my only option is to start to prepare the thoughtful and systematic partial shut down of the company for the rest of the season, even consider suspending operations completely. We aim and hope to protect our customers’ and employees’ health and safety with the immediate actions taken. We will continue to follow the instructions given by our government and we keep you informed through updates on our website.

The impact of the corona virus Covid-19 pandemic is not only financial, it also has an impact on the health of every individual person. We don’t know what will happen in the next days and weeks, we don’t know how it will effect my health and well-being nor that of my employees. For this reason, I kindly ask you, dear friends of Äkäslompolo, to have patience and contact us only through e-mail. We apologise, that we haven’t been able to answer all your contact requests.
